A sigh slipped past my lips, my fingers flexing in frustration as I contemplated trying to figure out what everyone had been up to. Rules, while needed for balance, were usually established because of imbalance and mayhem. What the hell had been happening around this place?
Demons such as these go to great lengths for the sake of knowledge, but not for mere academic purposes. They seek learning that serves their purposes.

I felt my horns instinctively emerge and I flung him off of me as I grew into the shape of the Horned Beast’s Wrath – nine full feet of ram horned muscle, a full mouth of flesh-tearing teeth, and a whole lot of angry. I saw red.
“But if he wants me to remove it, then he has to come and ask me. He needs to answer why his drinking is more important than his family.”
“It’s not like that. I’m not running off for a girl, I didn’t get anyone knocked up, and it has nothing to do with all of your playing.”
Becca gave a short bark of laughter. “This morning, my biggest concern was my divorce. Then my workplace gets invaded by…creatures…and we have to hide from them in the dark.”
What a rotten life she led: selfish and uncaring. Greed was almost understandable, but betrayal of your own son?
At that instant, a low voice hissed to my left, “Silence you!” With the second word, a sharp blow landed on my head. Multicolored lights swam before my eyes, and I knew nothing more.
I shook my head and stood. The minister stepped over to shake my hand. As I turned to leave, a large figure caught my eye as it loomed in the distance.
“I think this demon tapped her for knowledge,” Tris replied, “learning from her as well as feeding.”
Then we will go into the lower levels and save my people from whatever these demon mummies have in store for them.
Then his gaze met mine, and recognition blossomed there. The man knew me, but I had no idea who he was.
